Absalom’s Gallery

Absalom’s Gallery

Jack Absalom was a renowned artist and larger-than-life figure who called Broken Hill his home for over 70 years. As a child, he learned bush skills from Indigenous people on the Nullarbor Plain, and his experiences in the outback heavily influenced his evocative oil paintings.

Visit the Jack Absalom Gallery, located in the heart of the Silver City, to view a wide selection of his stunning paintings. As one of the five so-called ‘Brushmen of the Bush’, Absalom’s work has been exhibited across Australia and throughout the world.

Featuring a permanent display of eleven 8′ x 3′ paintings, the gallery showcases Absalom’s striking depictions of some of the most awe-inspiring areas of Australia. One of these paintings, completed over 40 years ago, is a true testament to Absalom’s enduring talent and skill.

In addition to being an accomplished artist, Absalom was also an outback adventurer, survivalist, author, and TV personality. He produced books and programs on bushcraft and safe travel through the vast desert of the area. You’ll find a range of prints, books, and an excellent collection of opals on display at the gallery.

The Jack Absalom Gallery is open weekdays from 10am to 4pm, but it is closed in January and February. Come and discover the beauty of the outback landscapes through the eyes of this legendary artist.
