Broken Hill City Library

library-4

The Broken Hill City Library, which opened in 1891, is one of the oldest free public libraries in New South Wales. In 1914, the library introduced a Children’s library, which is believed to be the first Children’s free lending library in Australia.

The library offers both physical and online services, and provides computers and WIFI connectivity for public use. Early literacy programs are also available to promote an early interest in reading and learning. Additionally, the library hosts School Holiday Activities for school-aged children, as well as Adult programs.

The Outback Archives, which houses historic material related to Broken Hill and its surrounding regions, is also a part of the library’s offerings. The current building that houses the library, named the Charles Rasp Memorial Library, was opened in 1964.
