West Darling Machinery Preservation Society

The West Darling Machinery Preservation Society is a group of passionate machinery enthusiasts who have come together to preserve the industrial and technological history of the Broken Hill region. Founded in 1988, the Society is dedicated to restoring heritage machinery to working order or to working appearance. What began as a few friends meeting in each other’s homes has grown into a community-driven organization that is cherished by locals and visitors alike.

The Society’s Conservation Centre, located on Crystal Street, is a treasure trove of historical objects and innovative technology. It’s the perfect destination for anyone with an interest in machinery, technology, or the skilled craftsmanship of restoration. Visitors can explore a broad collection of objects that reflect the area’s rich industrial and technological heritage.

The Broken Hill City Council supports the group’s efforts by providing workshop premises, plant equipment, and storage facilities. Admission to the museum is free, and the Society welcomes donations.
