You heard that right – three shiny trophies added to their ever-growing collection, and they are now in the running for the title of the best gin worldwide!
Last year, their wildly successful Gunpowder Gin put them on the map. It’s quite a feat for what Paul Hanna affectionately describes as a “couple of old boys sitting on the corner trying their best.” Well, their best has taken them to new heights, and they are clearly relishing every moment of their journey.
Their Far West Gin, a fine example of Australian Contemporary Gin, claimed a gold medal at this year’s Gin Awards. Not just that, it even made it to the finals and was later crowned the Australian winner.
The Broken Hill Distillery didn’t stop at just one award. Their Outback Strength Gin impressed the judges and won the coveted title of the best Navy Strength gin in the country. For those unfamiliar with Navy Strength gins, they must have an alcohol volume of at least 57% ABV. The team at Broken Hill Distillery decided to take it up a notch and set it at a powerful 60% ABV, giving it a refreshing citrus flavor that wowed the judges.
The distillery’s Remembrance Gin, a limited edition with only 150 bottles produced each year, won the silver medal for Australian Signature Botanical Gin. And here’s the best part: 50% of the proceeds from each bottle go to the Legacy Foundation. Mr. Hanna proudly proclaimed, “It’s all about getting the good work Legacy do out there as well. And now their gin is a silver medalist on the world stage, which is pretty amazing.”
You might be wondering what the masterminds behind Broken Hill Distillery have in store for us in 2024. While we tried our best to uncover their secret, Mr. Hanna was tight-lipped about it. “It’s a bit of a secret at the moment,” he teased. “We’ve got our botanical supplier digging deep to see what we’ve got out there. We are looking at something special for the end of the year.” Oh, the suspense! We can’t wait to see what magic they’ll create next!
